Sunscreen is hard work. I know the kids are supposed to wear it but it getting it on them and then making sure they are well covered is a huge pain. And then reapplication? Geez! But I’m petrified that they’ll get burnt or worse – wind up with skin cancer some day and it’ll be my fault. When you throw babies into the mix, it gets even harder!
Well, MD Moms make it easier. Their Baby Silk Babysafe Sunscreen Towelettes are a lifesaver. These towelettes (a lot like baby wipes) are SPF 30 with a broad spectrum sunscreen that offers UVA and UVB protection. They are hypoallergenic and clinically tested. Best of all? They are safe for young infants! If you have an infant under 6 months, you should ask your doctor to be sure that it’s okay to use this. Even more good news – they are sweat proof and water resistant. Also, there are only ingredients that you need to make this a sunscreen – no chemical sunscreen ingredients. |
Now, I’ve tried the mainstream sunscreen spray and wasn’t thrilled, especially since I didn’t want to spray my kids in the eyes. So I was a bit skeptical about these wipes but was certainly willing to try them out.
These wipes are very thick. However, they weren’t moist like I was expecting them to be. I immediately became even more doubtful, but shouldn’t have – the sunscreen is somehow embedded in the wipe’s fabric.
I rubbed the wipe on my skin and was able to see a smear of sunscreen (the white streak on my arm in the picture above). I then rubbed it in a bit. I also tried not rubbing in the sunscreen and found it absorbed quickly.
Lest you think there is no way the wipe could safely cover your child, think again. According the website, each wipe is designed to completely cover a 2 year old from head to toe.
Okay, but do the Baby Silk Sunscreen Towelettes work? You betcha! I used one on each of my kids. Since they were wearing shorts and tees I only needed one per kid, even for my tall 4 year old. I felt they were covered sufficiently to face the sun for an hour or so, especially with sweating. Nobody got burnt so I would say that’s a good sign.
While the sunscreen smells wonderful, I would worry about putting it on sensitive-skinned children. That’s the only drawback I could find for this product. I would love to see a unscented version of this product for those that may have to worry about scent issues.
